About your hosts

David and Sam Orth-Moore bring decades of personal experience in Africa to this journey. They raised their four children while living in several African countries, including nine years in Kenya, and have a deep familiarity with the region’s cultures, customs, landscapes, and practical realities of travel. David is an experienced birder with extensive knowledge of Kenya’s habitats and birdlife - he has posted 295 checklists on eBird for Kenya, with a total of 787 species (out more than 1100 total species).

In addition to her love of birding, Sam also brings warmth, organization, and attentive support to the group experience. As dedicated trip hosts, David and Sam will travel with the group throughout the 20-day itinerary, helping guests feel comfortable, informed, and well cared for from arrival through departure. They will work alongside expert Kenyan guides, assist with logistics and questions, and create a welcoming, personal atmosphere that is difficult to replicate on a larger commercial tour.
